Different results

In October I had raised bumps near my genitals. They never scabbed; just went away. I went to the dr anyway and he said herpes and gave me a blood test. The blood test results were igm negative and igg . 98-eqivocal.   The dr said I was positive.  I went on my own to a lab (BBB approved) three months later and their results were igg and igm results were .91- negative. I went back to the dr recently for an open sore on the perineum and around the anus. He gave me a long talk about wasting money on private labs but when he looked at it all, he said it didn't look like typical herpes. What do I believe?

Thank you. Your service of excellent information and in my case, peace of mind, is greatly appreciated. Have a good night.

your igg's are consistently negative. I'd stop thinking herpes.

Thank you so much. Based on the 3 Igg results, even though they are from different labs, your thoughts?

the igm herpes test is a greatly flawed test which is why we don't recommend it on adults. it has a high false positive rate as well as a decent false negative rate too.

Just to be clear. Here were my hsv1 results:
Hsv2 results all negative
Supposed "outbreak" according to gyn but I was skeptical-not typical from what I read or google images
10/4/12 Igm negative
Igg .98 eqivocal

10/21/12 (different lab) Igm negative
Igg.91 negative

1/13 (same lab as second  test) Igm .91 negative
Igg .91 negative

Also if I were having an ob the first time, wouldn't my Igm show a positive result?

Thoughts???

He's going to think I'm crazy. I had something that weren't lesions but more like welts around my anal area. It didn't hurt but felt uncomfortable"   I also have hemroids so I know what that looks like. My provider saw it and prescribed valtrex but didn't really know what that was either. So confusing.

I wouldn't bother with more blood testing. be seen every time you have symptoms instead.

Thank you. I'm going to get one last test at the 6 month mark to be sure. There is something going on down there. I wish I knew what.
Thanks again.

if he suspects herpes, he should be doing lesion cultures on your symptoms. not likely it's a herpes issue if you are testing negative consistently like you are.

your provider is also way behind the times if he is saying not to trust the private labs!!!  the online services use accredited labs for their testing. usually it's the same local lab your own provider uses!!!!
