Do you think this is herpes?

by veryworried4186, May 15, 2009 05:14PM
Dear someone,

11 days ago I had unprotected vaginal sex. I am a male, age 21. About 4 days after the incident, I felt a mild burning, "tenderness" in the genital region. This persisted, so 6 days after the sexual episode I got myself checked out at a hospital, and had urine tests run for chlamydia and gonorrhea, both of which came back negative. The doctor said it seemed more like an irritation to a soap that I was using (I very vigorously used a hand soap on that region for the few days following the incident). I pointed out to the doctor a very small collection of red bumps located entirely on the frenulum. Doctor said it was nothing to be worried about.

I saw a second doctor about 3 days later, because the burning had persisted and the dots were still there. He said again not to worry. I saw a third doctor at my university health services who also said it was nothing to be worried about. However, what's worrying me now, is that I feel that those dots have gotten larger. The burning has subsided but I feel that the frenulum might be slightly swollen (if that's possible). Do these symptoms sound like herpes? I have no had any systemic symptoms, no swollen lymph nodes, so fever, no pain during urination or ejaculation. What do you think? Thanks!

Did the person you had sex with have herpes? The chance of contracting herpes from one unprotected act of sexual intercourse is extremely small. You saw 3 doctors and all said there was nothing to worry about. I think you should go with that.

if youre not comfortable with what the docs said, then be persistant. theres no way something would be growing on my genitals, and i just act like its nothing. this is the first time youre seeing somthing like this on your penis right? do what ever you gotta do to get some answers from these doctors. but i also have to say that it does not sound like herpes. herpes bumps pop and leave open, painful, itchy sores.

I disagree that the chances of contracting Herpes from a single episode of unprotected sex is very small Herpes doesn't really care whether it is one time or not, also Herpes can transmit in the absence of an active outbreak so please don't anyone assume because it was only once that it will make a difference to the possibility that they could have been infected, it won't, following unprotected sex with someone who's status you don't know it is always best to get tested for all STD's not just Herpes, the absence of symptoms is not an indicator of non infection either because many people don't have any sympyoms of HSV therefore assume all is well when in fact it's not  ......
