Doctor said not herpes by looking but still worried?

Hi im a 21 year old male and am sexually active with and without condoms.  Im concerned because im not sure whether or not what i have is herpes or something else.  I shave the hair around my genitals which sometimes i cut but not so big, and i recently found a small sore maybe about a centimeter or so, yet i have no idea what it was from since it was completely painless and didnt even notice i had it till i looked at the bottom of my penis.  It was on the right side by the base close to the scrotum but on the shaft of my penis.  I read all about the signs of herpes and the only one that i feel is my right lymph node by my groin is sore, but it does not hurt to pee, no fever, no chills, no itching,burning,pain with the sore, nothing at all but the sore being present and the swollen lymph node to the right (left one is fine as normal).  I didnt think of the sore as anything at first and it was healing fast but i wanted it to heal faster so i put neosporin on it which made it worse.  I didnt put a bandage and the cream spread and whats even more strange is that white clear bumps started to appear only where the neosporin was, and i only popped one and only a clear liquid came out of it?  I went to the first doctor i saw and he said it wasnt herpes by looking and prescribed me doxycycline.  I was still freaked out though because ive never had a sore on my penis before so i went to another doctor and in 10 seconds hes like "OHH thats herpes."  He took a blood test and the swab thing and when he was doing the swab thing before he put it on hes like "sorry about this"(expecting it to hurt) and when he put it on it didnt hurt or sting or nothing at all and then he says, "that doesnt hurt you at all?" like he was surprised or something. It was so hard to read his mind....just seeing the way everything was going was freaking me out in the beginning he was rushing and stuff and made everything seem for certain that it was herpes then towards the end of everything hes like relax its just a break in the skin and etc..trying to calm me down since he could tell i was nervous, i just dont know if he was just trying to hide something i dont know =\.  He also gave me a pennicilin shot and prescribed me LEVAQUIN 500mg.  Could this be herpes, i know you cannot be diagnosed over the internet but ive been studying hours and hours about it reading forums but nothing could match up just right....im just really freaked out and any input would be greatly appreciated! just looking for some peace of mind at least until the results come in, thanks so much!

neosporin can be very irritating in the sensitive genital area.  never a good idea to put it on the genitals.

they did a swab test thing i guess and he took in blood for hsv 2 he didnt tell me which one so im not too sure the swab thing didnt hurt when he did it and he said it was supposed to? there was only one open sore in the beginning before i put the neosporin on and it was actually healing well so i thought it was a cut till i put the neosporin on and it spread around where the neosporin was i find out results monday so ill let you know what they did then thanks for you help i really appreciate it

The tests came back and i guess it is positive.....it says microbiology herpes simplex virus isolated and under reference range it says not isolated he said they didnt even use the bloodwork because it came back positive onthe swab, my question is how accurate is the test for the swab? he even said he was surprised because he said herpes usually hurts and on contact and it didnt hurt should i re test? he gave me valtrex 500 mg for a month...

did your swab come back as hsv1 or hsv2?

why did he put you on suppressive therapy for a month?

Thats what im wondering he didnt have it on here this is exactly how it says on the paper from physicians immunodiagnostic laboratory, inc. as Follows Isolated being under high and not isolated being under reference range:

He said i have to take valtrex since i have genital herpes since the results came back positive but none of the signs i have are herpes no pain itching burning nothing but the swollen lymph node and the blister and i guess herpes lesions with clear pimples(that if i popped they would have a clear liquid come out) when i put the neosporin on it ( thats what made it worse).  Could it be possible i have hsv-1 and i gave it to myself when i went down on a girl and then had sex the same night or would the virus take time to be in her system? Im so confused because ive only had like 1 or 2 cold sores when i was just a kid....im just so confused when he said he was doing the test he told the nurse for HSV-2 but it doesnt say hsv-1 or hsv-2 on this paper just the culture should i retest at a clinic or something?

He said that since the swab came back positive they didnt even do the blood tests? i dont understand why they didnt do both but he said if the swab is positive they dont do the blood tests? is that correct? because theres nothing on here that states anything about hsv-1 or hsv-2...

oh and sorry i forgot to mention they did take blood though as well so i dont know why they didnt do both or even label it on there as hsv-1 or hsv-2?

you need to find out what type you have at this point since you have a + lesion culture.

give the clinic a call monday and see if they did run the blood tests after all. if they didn't, you'll need to repeat them.

Well i went to a regular family doctor for these tests...he said they didnt process the blood work since the swab came back positive so i will probably go to the clinic monday and do bloodwork there since the blister and lesion is healed for the most part.  I appreciate all your help thank you very much.

Also i have one last question i was talking to one of my friends and she was telling me that she knows plenty of couples which only one person has herpes and the other partner in the relationship doesnt.  Is it true this can happen if i take the antivirals and if this is true, will i have to take a pill a day everyday of my life now for this to happen?  Thanks

just avoiding sex any time you have obvious symptoms does help a lot. if you take daily suppressive therapy it cuts transmission in half if you have hsv2.
