Does a positive blood test neccesarily mean I have herpes?
I recently went to the doctor after having my blood test for several things because I was having pain in my kidneys. I was told I had a positive test result for Herpes strain
with one guy, who has been my boyfriend for over a year and a half. Neither of us have ever had symptoms. I also made sure he got tested for everything before we had sex
and it all came back negative. My doctor did not address my kidney pain, but is sending me to get another test in two weeks. I have read online that the chance of false positive is fairly high, and that IgG antibodies are not specific to herpes alone. I have a history of urinary tract infections, would that elevate my antibody levels?
Thank you for your help!
It depends if the proper test was done, and that the results (which should be numeric) were interpreted correctly. Call and ask for either the specific results, or get a copy of the lab results and post them here for us to help you with.
If your doctor isn't following up properly on the kidney pain but is focusing on the hsv2 igg results instead, go for a 2nd opinion elsewhere.
If you can get your hsv2 igg results to post here, I can help you see if you need additional testing done or not. also your bf needs to check his results from his testing to see if herpes was included in it or not. usually when you ask for std testing, it's only 2 or 3 std's you get tested for and herpes typically is not included.
