Hey all. I am brand new to this forum. I joined because I am totally freaking out about what may be happening. Here's my situation. Recently, I had sex
has been feeling itchy and irritated. I looked up these symptoms and it all points to herpes. Before I go on, I should mention that I have always had these weird spots
were benign. And since one of the ways to know if I have herpes or not is to look for spots or bumps, I have no way of knowing if the bumps are new or if I have always had them. A week after my encounter I went to my doctor and got a full std test. Everything came back negative except for the herpes results, which were not very encouraging.
The doctor says that the hsv1 was cold sores, and the low hsv2 means I don't have antibodies for genital herpes yet. But the positive igm indicates I have recently contracted the disease and the igg hasn't shown up yet. He told me to wait for three month and get tested for hsv 2 again.
I am totally freaking out. I have one more month to go before i get tested again, and this thing is just driving me insane. I dont know if its mental or whatever, but my penis keeps itching every few days, and I could swear that I see new spots forming every day. On top of everything, I have just gotten into a new relationship. Perhaps that wasn't the best idea in the world for someone in my situation.
Sorry to be rambling on and on, but I just had to get that all off my chest. My question is,
1. could I have gotten herpes from that one encounter? And my FIRST encounter? What are the chances of catching herpes during 1-2 minutes of unprotected sex?
2. What should I do about my new relationship? I want to wait one month before having sex with her. But what can I say, "we can't have sex right now because i MIGHT have herpes"? I'm scared that if I tell her this she will just leave, when i may not have herpes at all.
3. If I do have sex, what are the chances of passing herpes to her(if I have it)? And will wearing a condom and taking supressive medicine help to prevent her from getting the disease?
Please, any advice or help is greatly appreciated. I feel like I've 20 years within the last 2 months with all this worrying.
Chances are I would say you probably do have herpes unforunetly...but do get tested again. and specially if the doctor told you you have the virus in ur blood...i cant tell you that it def is something you would rather not have and it being your first time. seems unfair for you to have gotten this. But your life is not over. herpes is not a big deal...just be sure to always tell your partner before hand. and keep them protected. be thankful its not aids.!! many women will be understanding about this and will still be with you if they are educated on the virus. you should read up on it. and never sleep with someone unless they are aware of your situation!!! its not fair. dont worry!!! many people nowadays have herpes.
Grace, I really hope you are right. But what about my igm results? The doctors say that it is a sign of a recent infection which means I most likely have the virus.
Just got my test results back today. Negative!! Although I took the test at 9 weeks instead of the 12, the doctor says that by 9 weeks, the test is about 90% accurate so I should stop worrying, and only to test again in 6 months for confirmation.
I am sooo relieved. Thanks to everyone for your help and support!
