, arms, legs, thighs, and buttocks. I was at first afraid I had scabies because it itched so bad that I had trouble getting to sleep, or I would wake in the night scratching, but when I went to the dermatologist she looked at it and assured me it was eczema. She gave me a steroidal cream, and I used it regularly and the itching
shaft, and scrotum. I never had a cluster of bumps, it was only ever one or two that were somewhat sporadic, but it still itched intensely. As much as I tried not to scratch, I would find that I would scratch in the night, and that would cause some of the bumps to bleed. They were never sore, there was never pus, they were just itchy. They tended to go away after a few days, and I only ever got a bump on my penis once after that (though I had had a couple on my scrotum and pubis afterward, but haven't for some months). The itchy bumps on the rest of my body have never completely gone away, and I've been to 4 dermatologists who have all said it is eczema and that the only way to tell what is causing it is to get a skin test. I have been tested for HIV and other STDs, but I learned today that apparently Herpes tests are not included in standard STD tests. To the best of my knowledge, I have never had an STD, and I have never engaged in activity where I would have thought I had contracted genital herpes.
Now that I've said all that about eczema, here is why I am posting. I've been seeing a guy for the past couple months, and we got very serious very quickly. Everything was fine until he took his clothes to a laundromat one night and a few days later he started to develop itchy bumps. He has also been dealing with a lot of stress, and the itching bumps only made his stress worse. I would tell him not to scratch, and try to assure him it was more than likely an allergic reaction to something plus the stress plus other conditions such as weather. His mother who is a nurse looked and said it looked like heat rash or some other allergic reaction. Very recently his itching got quite severe, and he woke up to having bumps he had scratched on his penis. Needless to say, he was scared. He went to the clinic and was tested for HIV and Syphilis and tested negative for both (and I knew he would, because I was tested in December and I am negative). They took blood and sent it out for further testing, and he will get his results back in the next ten days.
This has taken a terrible toll on the relationship we were developing. He is really unsure how to feel until he gets the final results back. I didn't think I had ever had a symptom of herpes. I never had a fever, I never had a burning or itching before a form of ulcer appeared, I have never had an ulcer on my skin, my bumps have always been only itchy and never painful or sore, and I have never had anything that was pussing or oozing. Four dermatologists have told me I have eczema, and none of them seemed at all concerned about something like an STD. I know eczema is not contagious, and I know anyone at any time can develop an allergic reaction to something, or that stressful situations can cause all kinds of skin problems. However, I am still terrified because I guess I have never been properly tested for herpes, and while I really don't think I have it, I feel so uneasy because the guy I've been seeing developed itchy bumps like I had, and he's gotten them all over his body like I did, even on his penis (which he has said are really itchy, but not painful). Is it simply coincidence? Am I over thinking it? Advice, opinions, whatevers are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
