FREAKING OUT ABOUT HERPES!!

My worry of STD'S is VERY EXTREME!! My brother in law, gets cold sores, and he loves to be around my 13month old daughter. Whenever he has a cold sore, I never let him kiss her, but he still holds her. I am SOO worried that she will get some type of diease or something. Is my fear extreme? If you have a cold sore, does that mean you ALWAYS have herpes or just when you get a cold sore? ifthe cold sore is dry, can you is it still contagious? Is there another type of infection that is not herpes, but you may still get cold sores? I have scared myself so bad with all these thoughts. When a cold sore is dried and not bubbly, is it still contagious?

Another note, I have had this barely visible purple spot on my lip...any ideas of what it could be, it doesnt hurt and has been there for months?

I would really like to be more educated, and not feel so scared of everything...
