False Negative..?

by dominantjd, Apr 30, 2009 01:48PM
I have had weird symptoms on my penis for over a year now.. I was tested about 4 months after I thought I had contracted something, and everything was negative, however I was not tested for HSV-1/2. I recently (about two weeks ago) was tested again, this time for HSV. It was done with a blood test. My doctor said I tested negative for everything again, including HSV-1/2. I had been taking L-Lysine to help get over being sick (cold/flu/whatever) in probably a 3-4g a day dosage. Would there be any way I tested falsely negative? It seems like I have symptoms that sound like herpes, but test negative and I am worried. I am in a serious relationship and have not passed anything on to my girlfriend over the course of a year. It has been over a year and a half since I thought I contracted something.

Could there be any reason I would have a false negative blood test?
Thanks in advance...

No, taking lysine won't affect your blood test results.  Continue to follow up with your provider to try to figure out what is going on with your penis.
