False Positive / Testing Level Changes

False Positive / Testing Level Changes

About 2 weeks after what I thought was my "exposure incident" I got tested for HSV-1 and 2, and both came back positive, with Type I at around 3.5 and Type II at 1.75. The medical doctor on the STD forum said that due to the low Type II number and the fact that I was positive for Type I, I may have a false positive for Type II and should get retested for confirmation. I did so, and will get the results on Monday (almost 3 full months after the exposure incident).

My question is this: if on Monday the result for Type II is still in that same low range (above 1 but below 3.5), do I assume that I am HSV-2 positive or negative? Do the test results change as time goes by, or do they stay the same? And if they stay the same, then how will I ever know if a number in that range is truly positive or negative?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if there is a definite answer to this, but you may consider the Western Blot test - I've read on this site it is the gold standard.

Thanks! The test I took again and that I will get results for on Monday is the iGg test. I will not have access to the Western Blot for a couple of months at least.

Let's just take it one step at a time and wait for your results to be back from this test :)  Post them here for more help if you want it.
