False Positive HSV2 w/Lupus

I have lupus, and left a marriage of more than 10 years this year. I met someone and wanted to be sure before we became sexually involved that I had been tested for herpes because I thought I had been exposed 28 years ago. I have a positive HSV2 result, and it has devastated me because I am over 50, and had just begun to recover my life again. Can lupus throw a HSV test to positive?

I too am over 50, have Lupus, and tested positive (low positive).  I too wondered if my test results are related to the Lupus, as I have never had an outbreak.

your hsv2 is a low positive and you should pursue the herpes WB to see if it's a true positive or not.

HSV 2 IGG, Type Spec 2.57 Index
HSV 1 IGG, Type Spec <0.91
Labwork done at BN, LabCorp, Burlington, 1447 York Court, Burlington, NC 27215-3361 William F Hancock  8007624344
Collected on 10/3/12, received by lab on 10/9/12 for testing.

First test results before they tested for HSV specific was
HSV I/II IGG 7.5 Index

Would you let me know what you think and if I should have a Western Blot done. I continue to worry, and have done a lot of reading about low positives and have explored how these limits have been established by the FDA, and I am wondering what I should do next. Some of this seems so abitrary.
I have met someone I would like consider dating, I don't want to reveal any information about this unless I have something definitive.

the lupus isn't as much of an issue as making sure you had the right testing done and seeing if your results are in the false positive range and need confirmed with further testing.  I wouldn't bother looking for previous test results - just these latest ones.

1 out of every 4-5 of us under 50 has hsv2 - it's incredibly common if indeed you do have it. it's never a reason to go back to a bad relationship - far too early to find someone with hsv2 or someone who is accepting of the incredibly low risk males have of contracting it from females.

Grace, I have the results on their way in the mail to me. The lab tech was new, asked for the wrong test, and it came back positive for HSV but then they couldn't say I or II, and five or six days later got back with the lab and had them retest, and then told me the result. I will send the actual numbers, and I am seeing my rheumatologist this week. I wonder if I should have any testing done to see where i am in my numbers related to Lupus. Also, I have told three partners as I moved through my life about the exposure. I was tested back then but it was inconclusive. Should I make an attempt to find those records? I am a professional woman also in the health care profession, and my marriage was very abusive and it took all I had to leave. Now I am afraid I will go back since this devistating blow. I am in therapy, but it is about more than I can handle.

I can best help you if you can post your actual test results. that way we can be sure that you were properly tested and see if your igg results are in the range that requires additional confirmatory testing.
