False Positive Herpes ?

by beexo, Jun 30, 2009 07:49PM
About a month ago i had bumps around my rectum, i went to the OB-GYN and they swabbed the bumps. I tested positive for a streptococcus infection, but on top of that they said i had herpes. I had a blood test done also and tested negative for herpes. I'm confused because i have only had two partners in my lifetime, and my partner now has been tested and he doesn't have herpes. My ex i'm not sure of, but if he does have herpes i would've been exposed to it over a year ago so it would've showed up in my blood test (as it takes a few weeks for the antibodies to show up)
I was wondering if it is possible to test positive for herpes doing the viral culture and it be false (meaning i don't have herpes) because the blood test was negative.

When they did the herpes culture, was it hsv1+, hsv2+ or just  + for hsv and they didn't order it typed?

How was your current partner tested for herpes?
