False Positive Test

by pennh, Dec 23, 2008 12:28AM
I am dating a girl that has hsv-1 and hsv-2 Herpes.  I am either really brave or really stupid.  I am paranoid that I am going to contract the virus.  I have been getting tested every two months.  I was tested mid oct. and negative for both.  I was tested again in December, as I needed to for piece of mind (I have not had any symptoms or bumps, etc).  The test did come back negative for HSV-2 but postive for hsv-1.  I am waiting on the paperwork to see what my #'s are.  Could this be a false positive?  I had the test done at planned parenthood.  Do they use a reliable test?  It seems like the type specific igg test is the way to go.  Please confirm.

Thanks,

P

The rate of false positives is lower for hsv1 than it is hsv2.

why in the world are you obsessing and getting tested every 2 months?
