False Positive?

I went for a routine STD screening two weeks ago. Honestly I don't remember getting tested for HSV1 or HSV2 in the past as I've never had any reason to. I have had no known outbreaks, etc. Anytime labs had a special going so I said 'Why not?". I got the full panel and everything came back negative EXCEPT hsv1igg (4.82 positive) and hsv2igg (1.64 "low positive"). They then ordered an IGM test with reflex to titer that came back "Totally negative" and proceeded to tell me this could be an old exposure or something. I have not had sex since jan/feb. I understand the IGM means nothing except determining a current infection. I am completely devastated with this and don't know what to do. I went to my primary care doc and spoke with him. He said "it sounds like you know more than me but I can give you Acyclovir and refer you to an Infectious Disease Doctor (at my request). I've heard that false positives are possible, but does anyone know how frequently this happens?  I've tried researching on where I would go to get the Western Blot or Biokit but to no avail. I live in Northwest Florida so any information anyone could offer would be great. I'd be willing to travel throughout the southeast to have the biokit done. I'm so disappointed at the lack of support numbers/knowledge for people like me going thru this.

the captia test has the same false positive issues as the herpeselect so that is why we recommend the WB to confirm low positives.

Grace, I apologize for being a pest. I see you're a busy person from all of your threads I do appreciate your input as there's such a lack of information in my area. I'm just wondering what the possibility would be of trying a test by a different maker (herpeselect) of that coming back negative since the herpeselect was a low positive for hsv 2 and higher hsv 1

I tested thru Herpeselect at quest. Prior to doing the Western Blot, would you recommend doing another Igg test thru a different brand (Captiva) or something like that?

You can order the wb kit from u of washington lab and your provider can order it drawn from your local lab.  It's your next step to confirm your status.
