False negative?

I recently noticed clear blisters on my penis.  I immediately thought it could be herpes.  I went to a doctor that said he was 80% sure it was.  I took a blood test (igg) and it came back normal (negative).  Another doctor said that maybe I had gotten the virus too recent for it to show in my blood.  He said to take the igm test.  I al waiting for the results in a few days.

What is the accuracy of these two tests?

The igm test should never be drawn.  It was a waste of time and money and you should totally disregard the results. Your provider should've done a lesion culture and typing of your active symptoms, not drawn blood.

At this point your options are :

1 -  should you get a return of genital symptoms, see your provider within 24-48 hours of the appearance of lesions for a culture and typing

2- wait until 4 months post encounter and get a repeat igg blood test done

3- talk to the partner you last had sex with prior to symptoms and ask them to get a type specific herpes igg blood test and share their results with you.
