I was just tested for STDs after finding out my long-term partner was sleeping with other women (after years of being together, we no longer used condoms
HSV-1: <0.91 ("negative" with the range being 0.00-0.90)
HSV-2: 1.11 ("positive" with the range being 0.00-0.90)
Two questions:
1. With the HSV-1 result, do I need to be concerned since it is so close to the high end of the range?
2. I have read several posts on this site about HSV-2 ranges. From what I'm reading, my 1.11 may be considered a false positive. Is that a correct interpretation of what I've read here? Would you recommend that I wait a month or so and be re-tested? (My test was done right about three months after the last time I was with my ex.)
I am VERY thankful that nothing more serious showed up, but I would still like to understand these results better. Thanks so much for any thoughts you can provide!
You are HSV1 negative. Your HSV2 is a very low positive and would need confirmatory testing. Have you ever been tested prior, and, have you had other partners prior to him?
That being said, has your partner been tested as well? If he is negative (assuming it's been at least 3 months since his last "outside" encounter), then you know you either don't have it or if you do, you got it from a prior partner.
If you've moved on from this person (not sure from your post), then you'll just have to go based on your results. A Western Blot is the gold standard to use with an IgG low positive - and quite honestly, given no symptoms and such a low positive, statistically this is most likely negative.
