False positive HSV2

False positive HSV2

Hi, Im a 26 years old woman. I have symtoms (symptoms) of HSV-1 in the lips since years ago. Lastly I did the herpeselect for  HSV-1 and HSV-2. The results were: HSV-1= 4.5,  HSV-2= 1.5. I have never had symtomps of genital herpes and im only had one partner. I have read articles and this forum that its very ofen my HSV-2 results are false positive. I know some test that can prove the false positive results: like BioKit USA, Herpeselect Immunoblot and Westernblot. I would like to know wich is the best test, that has the lower probability of false positive and how can I ask the doctor for the test? Thank you.

Good for you for doing your reading on this important issue.  I would strongly suggest that you have the herpes western blot done.  No test is perfect for herpes, but this is the one I use all the time to confirm low positives.  Have you recently had sex with anyone who may have given you new herpes infection in the past 4 months?  If yes, then the low positive could be reflecting new infection and confirmation should wait a few months.  Has your partner been tested?  If you have only had one sex partner in your lifetime and your partner is negative and has not recently had any new partners, then you aren't infected.  If your doctor can use Quest labs, the test code for western blot is 34534.
