False positive for genital herpes test

Question about getting an STD blood test. I have had cold sores on my upper lip on and off since I was a kid. Since this is Herpes simplex 1 could it give me a false positive for genital herpes when I get tested? I haven't been tested yet, but I'm planning on it just for peace of mind, but I am nervous and would like to know.

the newer herpes type specific tests have a much lower false positive rate. We can help you with your results and let you know if you'll need more testing done or not based on your results.
