Hello. I am a 21 year old girl. I have pcos and am frequently at gynecologists. In January I tried a new doctor for my problem. Yesterday, my mother (who is also this doctor's patient) was at his office and told me he wanted to speak with me but couldn't disclose anything to my mother because of my age. I called the doctor and he told me i tested positive for hsv2 with a 1.41.
I am completely devastated. I never asked for him to do this test because I have absolutely no reason to believe that I would have this. I have had intercourse
with one person- my boyfriend of three years. He was also a virgin when we first did it. We have been 100% faithful to each other for the past three years. I was sexual
partener a lot and they would not lie to me about their sexual history.
I am reading about false positives and praying that this is the case with me. I had a western blot test done this morning and have to wait two weeks for the results. Until then, i am in agony, worrying about this all the time.
Has anyone had an experience like this? What are the chances I am positive?
well you are already following up properly on this from the sounds of things. If indeed your current partner hasn't had another partner besides you, your hsv2 igg is a false positive.
let us know what your WB results are when you get them.
Thank you for your quick response. In your opinion, is it likely that i have it? I'm sorry to push this, I am just so devastated and looking for anything to give me hope.
I'm in the same boat as you right now and I have a similar sexual history. I met a new girl and we wanted to have unprotected sex so we both got tested. I find out that I have HSV 1 igg of 3.53 and HSV 2 2.09. she found out she had HPV. So I couldn't believe my gf of 7 years(each other's first) could've of cheated on me. Till this day sobbing she swore she doesn't know how I got that and that she never cheated on me. I'm still waiting for my WB to come back.
i wouldn't doubt your ex-girlfriend. i found this site and it made me VERY hopeful.

check out the table she has linked, apparently you have like a 50% chance of your test being a false positive.
my WB doesn't come back until the 27th. please let me know about your results!
To: Anyone that knows what they are talking about!
Please help!! I currently tested positive for ugg test. 3.33 for hsv1 and 3.99 for hsv2. I then went to another clinic and got a second test done...it came back inconclusive so my doctor did a combo igm test this came back negative for both! What do I think??? I read about igm tests always being wrong..ive never had any type of outbreak it symptoms.my bf that I'm currently with and have been with unprotected for the past year got tested too he came back negative!please help
yes indeed we do know what we are talking about but please start your own post instead of hijacking this posters post. thank you - we ask this in our read before posting post on the forum.
The second test was 2.76 for hsv1 and 2.98 for hsv2. Both done by lab corp. Just different clinics. I got treated for the second time at the same clinic as my bf.he says it was a igm or maybe igg western blot test..i don't know what to think! my Gyno seems fairly intelligent and is positive that I have both hsv1 and 2.but on the other hand my other doctor also seems fairly intelligent and is positive I dint have either! so I dint know what to think.i
I think the fact that it is so expensive to revise their "grey area" or equivocable ranges that they won't publicly admit their IGG tests are sometimes false verges on the criminal. Ah the globalized world of multibillion profit margins for pharmaceutical companies combined with corporate healthcare and the effect it has on the little guy. I can't imagine how many millions of people think they have herpes and don't (I'm hoping I'm one!).
I just requested my doctor to send in a note to Quest for the Western Blot and am trying to stay in good spirits, this site has helped a lot with providing me a glimmer of hope, so please post your results of the WB tests. Right now the UW stats are giving me a 40% chance of a false positive from my IGG test, hell I'm a gamblin man...ALL IN!
actuallty quest/focus diagnostics has been very public about the short comings of their herpes test and have already tweaked it once a few years ago. they also have a study going on now to see if it's worthwhile to raise the + cut off range. they've done more than any other company as far as I'm aware to bring light to the issues with their tests. no test is every 100% accurate but we don't tend to question our providers about most lab results.
my doctor called me today and informed me that they don't offer a WB test in my state (new york). I thought this was weird but she told me she did another IGG test (the original test i had) and it came back NEGATIVE for both hsv-1 and hsv-2.
i'm very happy but still weary as this was not the WB. Just to recap, on my first IGG i got a 1.4 for hsv-2 and the second time it came back negative. Is there any possibility I still have it? Should I have further testing done? I don't know how i'd go about getting a WB if it's not offered in my state. Is it most likely that I am actually negative?
it's not likely that you really do have hsv2 with a repeat igg that is negative.
Dr Gilbert in NYC is very knowledgeable about herpes and testing. Might be worthwhile calling his clinic about confirmatory testing if you aren't comfortable just going by your repeat negative results.
