Female with HSV proctitis??

I am female over 40. I had the same partner for 23+ years. New partner in September. 3 encounters. 8/23 (unprotected oral and receptive anal), 9/6 (same), 9/20 (giver of oral and protected vaginal. I have had intermittent (mostly all the time..worse when sitting) burning in my anal area. One fissure on anus (swabbed negative) and most recently constipation. Vaginal irritation, nonstop clear watery vaginal discharge, low back pain, roof of mouth pain with tiny bubbles that never go away, dry patch on upper lip. I use an ecigarette...a lot. All std tests were negative, including yeast/bacteria. My hsv igg at 10 weeks was hsv2 0.08 and hsv1 0.14. My 13 week was negatibve (no value given). I am at 17 weeks and about to test again. My stress levels have been off the charts. It now hurts to pass stool. Recently vaginal discharge is worsewith clumps of white. I have appts upcoming with gastro, obgyn znd oral (again). At a loss. Super anxious and depressed. Do i have oral and genital hsv?? Herpes proctitis? No major visible sores except fissure. Small tiny pimples around nose and sometimes above lip. Rash on forehead/scalp. Whats going on?

Fleetwood, please don't yell at me, but I couldn't resist.  I had to have one more IgG as comfort.  Even though I had a negative WB at 5 months, the strange positive IgG was haunting me.  I'm so so happy I took it!  LOW LOW negatives HSVI 0.14 and HSVII 0.08, same as they always were.  I am absolutely 100% done with the thought of herpes.  There is not one shred of doubt in my mind.  I do have something going on, but I can assure you that FaithAnnn and I are HSV free and we both believe it now.  We are actually meeting up for drinks soon to meet and celebrate our second chances of HSV free life! I too will never judge anyone who has an STD.  It can happen to anyone and even careful people.  I've learned so much and I owe the biggest thank you to you for walking me through everything. Thank you Fleetwood and all the other MedHelp HSV helpers.  You really are all a GODsend! Peace and good health to you all!!!

Thank you Duffus! Yes, it went a lot quicker than I ever imagined and thank God I got my WB results the day following my igg false positive scare! I can't imagine waiting weeks to get that confirmation. What is your situation? I hope you have negative results too! Take care!

Thank you so much for sharing the info. It sounds like it went relatively smoothly for you and with prompt results. I'm so happy you now know you are truly negative and can get on with finding the real culprit. Best wishes to you. Maybe now that you can take some anxiety out of the equation, you'll improve faster. Fingers crossed!! Thanks again!

Hi Duffus, I'm glad my story is helpful to others! Yes, there are different ways to order the test. I called UofW and asked them to mail it to my doctors office, my doc drew the blood, packed it with the cold pak from the kit and I took it to FedEx and shipped it myself on a Friday and they called my doc on that following Wed. with my preliminary negative results. I know you can go through Quest diagnostics lab if your doc gives you orders. You have to give them the order code (I'll get back to you with that) or you can set up a phone interview with Terri Warren at Westover Heights clinic. Its $75. Then she can have the kit mailed to your local lab for like $180. Then they draw and ship it to UofW. Its like $209 the way I did it. I havent paid yet, plus shipping it to UofW. Good luck!!

Hi Worn,
I've been following your dilemma. I'm so sorry you have been going through this. Could you tell me more about your WB? Was your WB sent to University of Washington? How long did it take to get results? Thanks for any info you can give.

Ok :) thank you so much! You have been my angel!!

There is no need at all to repeat testing of any kind. That is just delaying acceptance of the truth. You do not have HSV and it is hence playing no role in your symptoms. The WB trumps all other tests, period. Show your doctor the results and have them talk to UofW if required.

You have the concrete results. Even if the IgG is positive, you have the proof it is a false positive, of which there can be no doubt. You'd be better off changing doctors than repeating meaningless tests.

Ok...I lied...another question. My doctor wants me to repeat the IgG test. What if its positive again! Then what? I understand and believe what you said above and I'm sure its accurate. Should I repeat the IgG test?  They didn't spin my blood (I dont believe) after drawing it for the WB. Is that ok? The same exact blood draw that day was for both the WB and IgG I guess it wouldn't make a difference. I'm trying to let herpes go, but now this and if positive I'll always wonder what is true. I paid all that money for concrete results and now I'm back to another IgG test. Ugh!!

OMG!!! Thank you!! I was so devastated yesterday, crying and upset and today I am soooooooo happy! The Lord is giving me another chance!! Im still concerned about all of my issues but I don't have HSV and I don't have HIV (tested 4 times) so whatever is going on I can cope with it. If I can just figure this out. I have no further reason to comment here. Fleetwood, thank you so much for sticking with me and addressing all of my concerns the past few months. You have been a tremendous support system for me. I'm sorry if I doubted you at times, but I'm sure you see that a lot ;-) Bless you!

You now have your answer. Not only is the Westernblot conclusive, it is definitive. IgG tests look for one antibody, that's right just one! This contributes to issues of missing infections or false positives.

The WB looks for the entire immune response that is in your blood to HSV. It uses a concentrated form of the virus proteins to attract the antibodies and sorts them into four sized brackets for analysis.

Not detected is negative. Period. You do not have HSV. There is no need for any further testing regarding your current conerns.

Western Blot Results are in: NEGATIVE at 22 weeks.  Should I consider this conclusive?  Should I have another IgG test done since that last one was so crazy high?  Do you think there is a chance my blood didn't stay cold enough during shipping (we shipped it next day with cold pack they provided) I'm so seriously confused right now.  Happy.....but confused.

I guess I'm confused because usually people have numbers like 2.5 or 5.0 this is 62.0 which makes no sense. It's off the charts! I'm so confused, terrified and about to have a nervous breakdown..........

It doesn't seem possible, this appears to be some other test with a different measurement of what is positive.

Either way, it is meaningless in the face of the WB results. That will determine your status. Remember though if you are HSV1 detected, that is more likely to be an oral infection.

Does 62.20 mean I've had this for years and not months like I thought? Any chance its a false positive since I was negative with low numbers and now its so high??

It doesn't say. It just says HSV IgG I AB. Why so high suddenly?? Yeah I'll let you know my WB results tomorrow. This sucks!!! My life will never be the same. If it is only HSV 1 I have it orally and genitally. Today is my dooms day.

This looks like a test where the results are expressed in Ru/mL?

If so you are negative for HSV2. The Westernblot result will be definitive.

I got my 22 week IGG results back today....

HSV1= 62.20
HSV2= 21.70

Isn't it odd that I went from such a low negative to such a high positive in just 4 weeks?? I had a WB done the same day and will get those results tomorrow. Apparently.....I was correct with my worrying about this. This is the single worst day of my life. To make this even better I tested positive for EBV as well. Those results are...

EA=57.0
EBNA=117.0
VCA=750.0

Could the high EBV results be effecting my HSV results??? This is a nightmare!

Ok thank you. I know I have seen other posters who are relentless and I often wonder why that can't see they are negative, but often their risks are super low where mine (unprotected anal and oral) seems high, esp with all these issues, but I pray I am just blind to your positive expert advice and that I can begin to see that it is accurate. My heart wants so badly to believe it, but my symptoms seem like the devil making me think otherwise. I did order the WB today. I'll only comment after results. Fur real this time...lol. Thanks so much. Believe it or not you really have helped me a lot! Im forever grateful.

It is time that you dismiss herpes as a cause of these symptoms.

There has been no evidence of herpes,visual diagnoses are generally not overly accurate. Your testing has confirmed this.

Herpes just doesn't really cause any of the symptoms you describe, even when that person has genital herpes.

Also, could I have internal sores with initial and recurrent outbreaks without seeing anything externally? Is that possible with HSV1 genital?

I have another question. The fissure I was referring to in my original post was more like a sore and it was more inside my rectum than out. My doctor said it looked like a herpes sore, but when he swabbed it it was negative, however it had been there for awhile. He also swabbed an inner lip sore immediately after it appeared and he said that looked like herpes, but it was negative. He got a really good swab of it too within hours of it appearing. Since all tests are negative he is convinced I dont have hsv, but he seemed so sure of his visual diagnosis initially. Im having constipation and anal pain again, although I had a sigmoidoscopy and a rectal swab for C&G last week too....negative. I am oddering the WB today, but Id like to know if this changes your opinion at all? I felt my initial explanation wasnt detailed enough.

Ok, thank you. I guess when I saw your comment where you thought my anal sex was protected and it really wasn't it worried me again because I wondered if it changed your opinion that I'm truly negative. Thanks again.

Not at all. The number is meaningless. Every test will essentially have a control minimum value that is usually less than 0.2 but not always. Your two results mean that not a molecule of antibody was detected.

Only a Westernblot would truly confirm a negative for HSV1. Even if Detected though, which is quite unlikely, this will not explain the genital symptoms, which HSV1 simply doesn't do given the range and timing of what you describe.
