My fiance' got his test results back, here they are:
HSV Type 1 Ab, IgG, S Negative
HSV Type 2 Ab IgG, S POSITIVE
HSV Ab, IgM, S by EIA Negative
I was told he is HSV 1 negative, but HSV 2 positive. He has never had an oral outbreak but has had genital outbreaks. Then someone told me you can't tell by blood tests "where" exactly someone is infected and that he could be HSV 2 infected oraly and show no signs. Is this true?
it's really helpful when you just keep adding to your original post. since your original post never got answered, adding to the other one I replied to is fine.
odds are he does have hsv2 since his ex-wife also was diagnosed with it. her diagnosis was lacking but the odds of them both having reoccurring genital issues and it not being hsv2 is low. tests that report without numeric results are less helpful than those that do but probably no reason for him to repeat his testing.
you know his hsv2 is genital from his symptoms. no reason to doubt that. not many folks have hsv2 orally and those who do, it hardly ever sheds from there ( 3-4 days/year on average ). his hsv2 genital infection is the issue even if he did happen to have it in both locations.
has he started suppressive therapy yet?
if you continue in this relationship, really no reason to repeat your herpes blood testing any time soon. you've had no symptoms. in a long term relationship with someone with herpes, you don't get tested frequently anyways. just testing on a yearly basis is fine ( if you even want to test that often even ) unless you get obvious symptoms that need dealt with. should the relationship end, repeat your igg blood testing for herpes after 3 months after the last time you had sex
