Freaking Out Help Quick

I have been having sex with my gf for a while now and we both got tested i got my results normal and hers as well but then she gets a call from her docter saying that she had herpes. I freaked out bc since I thought she was clean that it would be ok not to wear anything. The question I have to ask is what are the chances that I got herpes to?

First, what type of herpes did your doctor say that she was positive for?  HSV I or HSV II?  Also, what type of test did she have?  If it was blood, was it IgG or IgM?  IgM is worthless.  If she was tested with IgG, what was her numerical value?   We need all of this information in order to help you in a thorough manner.

When you said you tested negative, were you tested for both strains?  Also, what type of test did you take?

OK from what I know she has HSV II. I dont no what kinda test it was she say thats her doctoer tooks a swab from her outbrake on her butt crack and sent it in she doesnt no what kind of test it was. I well look into it and get back at you.


I had the standered test from my docter. I think it was the IgG but that was before i had sex with her. I havent been tested yet if im not mistaken I have to wait a 3 month tell i can get tested right?

typically herpes is not a part of routine std testing.  make sure you both were tested for herpes on your testing you had done.

really no reason to get tested for herpes now if you were previously tested for it if you are going to remain in this relationship.

Yea after I found out that she has herpes she kinda broke up with me. Im just wondering if I could have got it from her b/c I would hate to pass it on to someone.

well if the relationship is over, follow up with a type specific herpes igg blood test 3 months after the last time  you had sex so you are aware of your status before moving on to another relationship.

it's pretty low risk of contracting in general.
