I found out today that my ex-girlfriend tested negative as well. I will get re-tested in Feb. 2009. The sore healed up, even though it left a scar, which I am sure will go away. I will use vitamin E to help out with the scar.
My doctor believes the sore was due to friction, but if an outbreak occurs - I will run to the doctor.
I never used valtrex or famvir at the beginning stages of a cold sore because I did not know that those drugs were effective against HSV1. Next time I feel that annoying tingling sensation, I will use valtrex.
Once again, thank you for your help.
As I already said, your hsv status at this point doesn't reflect what recently happened which is why seeing if your partner was ever tested for herpes to know their status is also a good idea if it's possible. You will need to repeat your igg blood test in february. should you get a return of genital symptoms, see your provider within 24-48 hours of their appearance for a repeat lesion culture.
You can use herpes antivirals suppressively for oral herpes. If this providers personal preference is not to and it's something you really want to do then seek out a different provider. Meanwhile do you ever use valtrex or famvir in the cold sore doses to start at that very first tell tale tingle of a potential cold sore to help keep it from developing into a full blown cold sore potentially?

Thank you for your response and relieving some anxiety. I'd like to post my detailed experience to help others because this board helped me.
My lab results came back in and the doctor called.
He stated that the culture sample from my painless sore, which was sampled on the 3rd day, was negative. Now, the sore was mainly painless, but it'd hurt if I were to have direct impact on it, similar to how one may have a scab on your elbow. It hurts when irritated.
Currently, the sore has extremely shrinked in size and has scabbed over. Right now, it looks more like a rug burn scab, then a herpes scab that I've experienced on my lips. It has been 8 days.
I was HSV 1 positive and HSV 2 negative. I anticipated HSV 1 because I've had cold sores since I was a kid.
I asked for an igg number for HSV 2 and thanks to Grace and this forum, he was shocked that I requested the value. I was prepared for the worse because my friction sore looked like a cold sore at times, while at other times, it looked like rug burn. Trust me, fellas - looking at your penis for too long will always increase your anxiety. I know this because I suffer from anxiety attacks and when I experience them, I itch all over and sweat. When you are focused on your penis, then everything is embellished.
But during this past week, I did up my water intake, Vitamin C, and Lysine. Grace has repeatedly said that Lysine is unproven, but during this week - it gave me a slight peace of mind. But it is expensive...about 100 pills costed about $15.
He didnt give me a specific number, but he did state "we look for it to be under .91, but not higher than 4.5 and you were in the 1s." I don't know why he couldn't give me a direct number, but I will take that. Thanks for the forum - I realize that it is a low false positive.
He suggested that my sore could be a friction sore from either masturbating or my recent dry humping sessions, then he said...I should get tested often, because you never know with this kind of things. Not the most encouraging words, but I get his drift.
Because of my high number casual sex partners in the past 6 months, I will try to re-frain from sexual activity for another few months and re-test for HSV 2 because it takes HSV 2 a few months to show up in blood lab reports.
Then, I asked if I can take Valtrex as suppression therapy from my cold sores. I get them about 2 to 4 times a year, and they are really bad. He said he never prescribed Valtrex on a daily basis and didn't think it was necessary.
Grace - What do you think about that?
Thank you, once again.
If you read our read before posting post, you'll see that pictures are a no no here!!!
Obviously the encounter on the 26th was not a risk for std's so you'll need to contact your prior partner and have them confirm that they were ever tested for herpes. You'll also need to contact the clinic you get tested for std's at and see if you were tested for herpes as part of your std testing you had done too. Most std testing does not include herpes testing.
Blood work you have now, won't accurately reflect anything that happened in early november. Finding out if either of you were ever tested for herpes before will help you figure out if you need to bother with additional follow up testing or not.
Also remember - lube, lube and more lube!!!!
