Friends with Herpes

Hello doctor;
My best friend and her boyfriend both have genital herpes. My best friend is like a sister to me, and we constantly share cigarettes and drinks and food together. Although we still do, I am always a little hesitant to do so after she told me she had herpes. I always check her mouth to see if she has any breakouts, and so far there was nothing visible to me but I don't know what is going on inside her mouth. I asked about this, and she said I can't get the virus from sharing a cigarette and so on.. However, I am still a bit suspicious but don't want to be rude to her unless I have some knowledge about the dangers of acquiring the virus in this fashion. Please guide me before its too late!

This isn't the doctors forums.  You have to pay to post in there.

Genital herpes isn't oral herpes.  The site of impact is the genital location.  Which means the nerves in the genital area (boxer shorts region) is whats impacted and NOT the oral location (two seperate nerves).  So unless you and your friends are having sexual encounters genitally you have no risk from herpes from sharing food drinks or even cigarettes.

Now if they had oral herpes the advice would be the same your risk is next to none as you only get oral herpes from those romantic kisses we share with our partners.
