GHSV1 primary breakout only in pubic area?

Hello, I have been seeing a girl for the past 6 months and have had no other partners in that time. She got tested a couple months ago and I got tested 2 weeks ago. We were negative for everything except she did not get tested for Herpes 1, as the Planned Parenthood she went to apparently doesn't offer that. However, she does get cold sores on her mouth with recurrent outbreaks.

After having unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex 3 weeks ago, I developed a burning sensation followed by a pink spot followed by lesions in the pubic hair area along with muscle soreness, muscle sensitivity, lower back shooting pains, insomnia, and temporary erectile dysfunction. The lesions grew in number (maybe 20-30 total) and spread towards my waist. I also got a few lesions on my butt and lower back. It's been almost 3 weeks and they are in the process of healing. I also have a sore throat but that may be from the anti-virals. The muscle soreness and burning are now gone. Also, the lesions are towards the right side and were not painful or itchy.

Is it unusual to get a primary ghsv1 breakout in the pubic area? Could this be a staph infection? Also I'm worried that maybe her HSV-2 test was a false negative and that she actually gave me HSV-2 instead.

Grace I had some kind of outbreakof some kind back the end of october.  it was a bit painful and itchy and it was red looked like blisters ect.I did feel a tingle and a burning feeling.   When I saw the first 3 blisters I shaved with a straight edge razor to clean my pubic region.  I NEVER had any sores or anything on my penis.  I waited a few days like 2 and was told to go see a urologist because they would know.  I went and instantly he looked at it and actually smiled and said its  not herpes it seems to be a infection, come back in a week and if it doesn't clear up I wil l will give you cream.  He did not seem concerned at all.  Also at this time I had flu like symptions but the flu was also going around.  So I went home told my family and they said, listen if the doctor thought for a minute it was ANYTHING or if it was possibly herpes he woudl have swabbed it or taken a blood test instead he was very quick to say its not herpes. 3 months to the day I had 3 small red rasied bumps in my pubic area again but this time its not even close to what the first set was like.  It just so happed that I had an appointment AGAIN with the Urologist the following day for something else so I showed it to him and again he said its an irritation don't worry I can tell you its not viral. ( I wentt to him the day after the first bump appeared, there are 3 total 2 are kind of close togeather.) there is no head to it as of yet. He looked very closley said its an irriataion could be from clothnig ect.  Again he did not seem concerned  AT ALL.  Again my family said stop worrying again if he felt at all there was any chance it was herpes he would have taken a swab or made you take a blood test. What else could it be?  The frist out break the bumps were kind of togeather on a red base but the doctor saw this and said it wasn't herpes he actually smiled cause he saw my reaction when he said it wasn't.

So the culture came back negative for herpes. But the doctor didn't rule out herpes. She thought she got plenty of culture to do a good test, but at the same time the lesions were a few days old (the original lesion 6 days old, maybe 3 days old for the newer lesions).

I am getting antibiotics for a sore throat that I think is related, but the doctor doesn't seem to think its related.

The pool I had been using got shut down for a few days, so maybe it wasn't maintained right.

don't bother testing yet. not worth spending money over and over again on testing, just wait 3 months and test then.

Grace, thank you for the response.

The area covered by the lesions is about palm-sized, which seems large compared to the pics I see of genital herpes. Also, we had been spending more time in the pool which maybe contributed to a potential infection of folliculitis.

But I guess I have to wait and get a blood test. I will probably go tomorrow since I read that after 3 weeks half of infected people test positive.

Anyways, I appreciate your help. I have been lurking the past few weeks and your answers have been incredibly helpful!

I was thinking folliculitis myself or something dermatitis related, not herpes. this would be incredibly extensive for a herpes ob from the sounds of things.

at this point , not a lot you can do. should you get a recurrence of symptoms, be seen promptly .

A week after the symptoms, a doctor visually diagnosed it as herpes. But she didn't seem too knowledgeable, as she said "it doesn't matter if it's herpes 1 or 2." She took a swab but I think it was too late and I have not heard back.

I also got a blood test a week later and was negative for everything, but I realize it is too early for a blood test.

Also, I started feeling the prodrome about 30 hours after our last sexual encounter.

It looks like hot tub folliculitis but I have been assuming it is herpes because of the sexual encounter.
