Genital HSV-1 transmission to Oral

Genital HSV-1 transmission to Oral

I have genital HSV-1.  My current partner is negative HSV-1.  I'm very worried about transmitting my genital HSV-1 to him.  After he performed oral sex on me, a few days later, he had this tiny sore on his tongue.  Looking at it, I cannot tell if it is a canker sore, or is it Herpes.  He also may have some kinda redness on his penis, but he thinks its due to some of my pubic hair (I shave) that was coming in, scratching him.  My question is - it has been 7 days after exposure, if this is what he is getting, that are possible symptoms - is this the WORSE that he will get - that tiny sore on his tongue, and some redness on his penis - or will it get worse?  I'm not even sure - if this is Herpes - or it may be a canker sore plus some friction on penis.  But, if he were exposed to Herpes, would symptoms have shown up by now? - It has been 7 days already...??

Chances are this isn't herpes.  HSV-1 genital doesn't often re-occur as I am sure you know and it doesn't shed often. Overall if you are avoiding sex when anything genital is going on it is the best precuations you can take.  You can use condoms to lessen the risk as well.

If he does have symptoms he needs to be seen within 24-48hrs for a lesion culture to be performed.  But as I said not everything that goes on in ones body is herpes.  Feel free to keep asking us questions.

Thanks for your comment and reassurance.  He got tested for a full panel of STDs and everything came back negative.  I guess you are right, and I was just being paranoid.  All the things I thought were symptoms turned out to be nothing, and it all disappeared in a few days.  Its hard because I'm always worried that I will pass it on to another person, but, you're right, I NEVER get outbreaks.  Its been 4 years since my first exposure, and I've never had a recurrent outbreak.  I, however, have passed it onto one person, asymptomatic shedding, I guess, which makes me paranoid.

Sadly there is no way to beat the shedding.  It's rare that it would happen on those days and it can happen but it is rare.

Good luck and please ask us more questions as you get them.
