Genital HSV1 and oral sex

I was recently diagnosed with genital HSV1 and have been doing some research and have most of my questions answered, but there are some I am still confused about:
- Does this mean that I will now start to see cold sores around my mouth? Or will any future outbreaks just be in the genital area? I haven't had cold sores before.
- I know to avoid sexual contact if i have a genital outbreak, but during that time do I also need to avoid giving oral sex?
- If I am not experiencing an outbreak and do not have any cold sores around my mouth, is it safe to give oral sex, or would I risk giving my partner genital HSV1? Similarly, is it safe to receive oral sex when I'm free of outbreaks, or would I risk giving my partner oral HSV1?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Genital herpes cannot be passed from mouth as is only in the genital ganglion nerve.
Since hsv1 genital only sheds about 3% of the time, without having any genital sores, you recieving oral sex would be fairly low risk. Also herpes most always breaksout in the same spot, give or take an inch. So be aware of that area.

Yes. But you might want to have a blood test as well as high numbers would indicate that its an old infection which would make you basicly immune to getting it oral.

Hi there. I was diagnosed by my doctor taking a swab of the sores and sending it off to a lab to be tested. So if I'm reading your response correctly, you're saying that it's unlikely I will see cold sores around my mouth as a result of this?

Hi and welcome, Tell us how you were diagnosed. Also those that have long term hsv in one area (like genital) would be basicly immune to contracting in another area.
Most that contract herpes in 2 areas like genital and oral, contracted it at the same time but this is not common either.
