Genital Herpes & Oral Sex

Hi,

What I'd like to know is what precautions should my partner and I take when performing oral sex on each other if we both have it. My partner has never known himself to have it and I experienced an OB which my doctor here diagnosed as HSV2 which means I only could have gotten it from him and my getting it was news to him that he obviously had it. I've been told to go and get properly tested to confirm. Im currently vacationing so I will wait until I return to the UK to get properly tested there but in the main time I am just going to go along with the fact that I have it and he has it. So this being the case, how do we prevent contracting oral hsv2 when performing oral sex on each other because I would REALLY like to avoid that happening. I would only realise I'm experiencing an OB once I have symptoms but isn't it true that you can pass it on before experiencing symptoms? Or do I have nothing to worry about?  I'm so confused in this respect.  Please help!!

Many, many thanks!!

At this point you both need to pursue proper testing to see who has what. Just because it's genital, doesn't mean that it's hsv2 going on. It could be hsv1 genitally.

Once you know who has what, you can more easily decide what precautions are needed in the relationship together.
