Genital Herpes, Yeast Infection, or Jock Itch?

4 weeks ago I made a stupid mistake and had unprotected sex with a random promiscuous girl.   A week later I started to have redness itchiness on the frenulum and below it on the right and left sides under the head.  The area would also get dry and peel a bit.  I bought some vagistat and the condition didn't really improve so then I started to use Lotrimin hoping it was jock itch.  It would also burn when I would apply lotion to moisturize the area or when i would masturbate.  I went to the doctor and now it's been 2 and a half weeks since the itching and redness started.  It still burns a bit when i apply lotion.  i went to the doctor and he said it was too early to tell.  I don't have any sores or lesions or any puss just redness and irritation.  the doctor decided to give me a blood test for herpes simplex virus and prescribed to Valtrex saying that even if i didn't have it it will be good to take it.  It was a bit awkward so I didn't really ask any questions and left panicking.  My question is how likely is it that I have herpes.  and also i hear that hte blood test isn't that accurate in that it could say I don't have it when actually I could still.  How do I find out?  I'm still applying lotrimin so if i take valtrex and lotrimin and if it goes away how do I know which one it is?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Grace.  The irritation persists but I still don't see sores and it's been a few weeks, started the antifungals 5 days ago and the irritation and itch is still present and gets exacerbated when I masturbated in eh shower with soap.  Other than herpes could you be a bit more specific on some others so that I can research them.  I guess I'm just hoping to god it's not herpes, but just want to do as much research as I can to try to keep my sanity as I wait in the interim and try to monitor the area.

Just itching for this long could be many things.

It was too early for a blood test to be helpful for herpes though at least it gives you a baseline result to compare future tests too.

I suggest you see a different provider if this continues. If antifungals didn't clear it up in 2 weeks, odds are it's not fungal.
