You can get an outbreak only if you had been previously infected. So, if you were infected and the virus was laying dormant in your system, it's possible to have an outbreak at some point. However, your negative blood test leadLead poisoning me to believe that you weren't infected. If this is the case, you don't have genital herpes. The cold sores that you experienced were due to HSV-1, not HSV-2. Herpes blood tests can sometimes take up to four months to become positive - but it sounds like you got the test way past that point. Just make sure you had a type specific, IgG test, such as HerpeSelect. Also, while blood tests are very good, they are not perfectPerfect choice.
