Genital Herpes

I was married to a man with genital herpes (5 years), but he always took Zovirax & when he felt the tingling sensation, we avoided contact.  I have now been divorced from him for 2 years & just had an HS1, and HS2 blood test. My HS1 test was positive but HS2 was negative.  Is it possible for me to still get genital herpes if I'm no longer having sexual relations with this man.  I've only had about 3-4 cold sores in my life (very mild ones beginning at about age 12) and usually after very long exposure to the sun. I guess my question is can you get genital herpes long after contact with a carrier?

You can get an outbreak only if you had been previously infected.  So, if you were infected and the virus was laying dormant in your system, it's possible to have an outbreak at some point.  However, your negative blood test lead me to believe that you weren't infected.  If this is the case, you don't have genital herpes.  The cold sores that you experienced were due to HSV-1, not HSV-2.  Herpes blood tests can sometimes take up to four months to become positive - but it sounds like you got the test way past that point.  Just make sure you had a type specific, IgG test, such as HerpeSelect.  Also, while blood tests are very good, they are not perfect.
Good luck,
Em
