Genital Shingles

How long can I expect the itching, swelling and general pain to last.  I was diagnosed as acutely positive for Herpes Zostra NOS (shingles).  The swelling seems to be much worse internally in the evening, making it difficult to sit without a great deal of pain.  The doctor prescribed Prednisone, Valtrex, and Lidocaine they all help but none are stopping the evening pain making it very hard to sleep.

Thanks for any feedback

what testing did they do to confirm that this is zoster and not herpes simplex?

what medication and dose did they put you on?

how long has this been going on?

Grin and bear the pain. As awful as it may feel for a few days, the potential consequences of drugs like prednisone and the others are so much greater.  You have no idea what the drugs will do in the short term or long term.  The pain is terrible, but it passes. Consequences of prednisone may never go away. I know.
