on me, while he had a cold sore. I was about 26 at the time. Up until that point I had never had any cold sores, ever, which is why when I had my first outbreak it hit me hard, very hard. The thing is though, I have never had another outbreak, 8 years later and I'm still waiting for it to happened. Nothing, nada, zilch. I have had boyfriends since that I have told, and most were accepting, and we always used condoms
. So I guess my real question is 8 years after the initial and only outbreak of type one genital herpes, what is the likelihood of transmitting it on to my partner during unprotected sex
Well, I'm no expert, just another forum browser. HSV type 1 is oral herpes. So you're saying you have HSV type 1 on your genital area, which can happen. Usually people with strong immune systems have less outbreaks. As for transmitting I don't know the %. But he will probably get it eventually since it's just a matter of time going unprotected.
According to some information I've come across on this website, Genital HSV-1 infections are quite uncommon. Only 15% of people with genital herpes actually have it caused by HSV-1. The other 85% is HSV-2.
I also have type 1 genital herpes and I've had it for 9 years and got it the same way. I have not had any outbreaks since and I also have been in a serious relationship with my bf for almost 8 years. We always have unprotected sex
and he still has not gotten it. I had him get tested for it. Maybe its just luck but I think that the chances of giving it to another person is pretty slim if u never have outbreaks yourself. This is just what I believe based upon my own experiences.
