This only lasted about 20 seconds and afterwards I immediately washed my penis.

There weren't any obvious signs of herpes on her genitals.  There was some sort of red mark on her *** (towards the middle bottom of it), though I didn't look too closely at it. I just assumed it was a pimple.  It didn't occur to me until afterward that it could have been a herpes sore.

How much of a risk is there that I contracted herpes?  My girlfriend is away until next week.  Should I be hesitant to have sex with her?

Thank Grace. It's seems like this issue comes up for a lot of guys, and there are plenty of similar questions posted all over the internet.  It seems like the general consensus is that it is indeed possible to catch herpes this way (genital-hand-genital), but it is very unlikely.  I couldn't, however, find a single anecdote where someone actually claims to have gotten herpes this way.  Mostly you just find chumps like me stressing over the perceived chance they picked something up.  I wonder if herpes transmission in this manner only happens in theory.
