Genital herpes

Does genital herpes itch constantly for 2-3 weeks (even after the formation of bumps/small sores)?  The area where sores formed had not itched.  The itching/burning initiated in the vagina.  Then I douched with baking soda (maybe used too much) and then the baking soda made the skin burn for a while.  After the douching I felt a stinging pain in the lower genital area.  I went to the doctor who said he saw tiny sores or cuts.  He is testing for genital herpes.  The stinging has stopped but the itching in the vagina and around vulva has been intermittent throughout the 2 weeks and can be intense.  Could this be something other than herpes?

Did the doctor you saw do any testing of your vaginal secretions to test for yeast and bacterial infections?

Douching for itching isn't recommended. You can actually force bacteria further up into the genital tract and cause worse problems.  Until you've ruled out all infectious causes, don't douch.
