Given oral sex to boyfriend and may have had a intraoral cold sore, HELP!

Dear Doctor,

Just to start off, I had my first outbreak of HSV-1 back in January this year.

A few days ago, I had some dental work done in my mouth.  Two days later, I performed oral sex and had intercourse with my boyfriend of 4 years.  Later that evening, I noticed that my gums around the area that I had my dental work done felt a bit odd. I took a closer look at my gums and noticed small abrasions, almost like mini canker sores.  The area only felt uncomfortable because I was brushing hard in that area for the two days before I noticed any infection of some sort.  After, I've been really well with not touching the gums and it hasn't been hurting or bothering me at all.  The next day, I asked a friend who just got out of dental school what it might have been and one of his answers was intraoral herpes.   Since I told him about my first outbreak, he said that it could possibly be another outbreak since my gums were traumatized after a dental procedure.  What I'm afraid of now is transmitting it to my boyfriend and to his genitalia.  The area of my gums that is infected is on the upper part, where my cheeks lay over it.  The area could have have touched his penis in any way since it's hidden within the flaps of my cheek. My questions are:

1) Do the symptoms sound like intraoral herpes?
2) If there was no actual skin-to-skin contact with the penis and the infected site, can he still get it?
3) How long of a time range will we know if he's acquired HSV from me?
4) Is it true that saliva can help fight against certain viruses, and is HSV one of them?
5) How can you find out if you're an asymptomatic shedder? Can you give HSV to someone orally if you're a shedder?

Sincerely,
In desperate need to know

This could be many things.  Since you've already had your initial hsv1 oral infection earlier this year it's less likely that this is hsv1 reactivating inside your mouth. Usually it reactivates on the lip area, not the gum area.  It could even just be trauma from the dental work and then giving a really good blow job to your man.  It could also be an infection from the dental work going on.  without a lesion culture for herpes - there's no easy way to know.

Has your man ever been tested for herpes or can he recall ever having a cold sore?

Well, this event happened this past Saturday and I got it checked out on Sunday.  I'm hoping it's just an infection and nothing more.  I've also advised my boyfriend to check himself daily, as I'm checking myself practically 3 times a day. My boyfriend also has never been tested for herpes, but I know his mom has HSV1 as well... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!
