Groin Itch came back after a month, is this herpes?

Hello, I'm a 25 year old male , and almost 3 months ago I had protected sex with a sex worker (A decision I regretted immediately) I'm single and was not sexually active prior to this, or ever since. In fact, this was the only sexual exposure of my life... A week after the exposure I got this slight burning on my groin area, including the top of the thighs. It looked as if the skin was dry and redder than usual. The spot where the scrotum meets the thigh actually stings... I was also getting an occasional tingle (like once every hour or so) at the bottom of the scrotum, followed by some movement in the testicles.. Those symptoms lasted a month and my doctor said it's likely "Jock Itch".... 2 weeks after using Lotrimin Af, all symptoms disappeared! I continued to use it, it's now been 6 weeks of spraying lotrimin af. I thought it was over. But for the past week I'm feeling the same itch, tingle and overall dry skin.. I'm wondering if this is an hsv outbreak? And the possibly of that?

I have had no lesions or sores anywhere. I'm hsv 1 and 2 negative, last checked at 6 weeks past exposure (It will be 3 months on November 28th) and I will have a captia Elisa test done again.. It's a good sign that I have no lesions, I guess. But I'm most worried about the exact same symptoms returning even while using lotrimin.. I haven't slept well these whole 3 months. I'm very scared, but I'm here because I'd like an opinion on how likely it is for me to have gotten HSV2 from that one regretful exposure.. Thank you.

Yes at 12 weeks to be negative means the results are extremely unlikely to change now. You are clear of genital herpes.

Good question, I haven't seen a good condensed source of sexually transmitted bacteria, viruses and funguses - sorry about that. Maybe the guys who look into general STDs have some sources.

Thanks for letting us know about the negative results. It is encouraging for others going through the same thing not to get overly convinced they have herpes due to symptoms that arise from other factors.

Hi, just to follow up. Wanted to say thank you very much for your reassurance. I tested negative for both hsv1 and 2 at the 12 week mark, with the herpesselect elisa. I still have some symptoms listed above which seem to be receding. Just dry skin that doesnt seem to heal with lotions.

It's very interesting what you said about transferring the Low grade bacteria, seems like that may be whats been going on. Is there any known reference to this? I'd like to educate myself as much as possible. I just hope I can finally take hsv out of the equation. 12 weeks is good enough to be conclusive right? Thanks again and god bless.

The odds are really with you. A one off encounter that was protected, extremely low risk.

What you will come to realize is that first encounters will just about always swap some low grade bacteria and viruses. More often than not things will be off for a few days, then you get 'used' to each other.
