HERPES TREATMENT

There is research currently going on to learn more about the virus, create a vaccine and better medication. Do you think we can ever find a cure in this life time? Honestly. I think technology is always advancing and it is a possibility. What do you think?

yes, nausea and diarrhea are very common side effects. typically they go away after a few weeks on suppressive therapy though.

All sorts of things can cause the constant symptoms you describe - vaginitis, nerve injuries/back injuries, atrophic vaginitis - just to name a few. finding a doctor willing to work with you and look beyond herpes if you don't get significant relief within a few weeks of being on suppressive therapy is usually just as hard as finding out what is really going on.

Thanks for your feedback. What else can it be if it is not herpes? Yeast infection on the vulva? I definitely know the discharge is from herpes; possibly lesions on my cervix :(. I feel better today. Im crossing my fingers.

Do valtrex or acyclivor cause nausea and diarrhea as side effect? Just wondering...getting some symptoms like that.

Currently you would have to pay for the entire series of gardasil shots out of pocket to get it if you are in your 30's.  Cervarix by gsk covers the 2 types of hpv that cause most cervical cancers. It got a preliminary yes approval from the fda but not official approval yet I don't think.  I don't know what age ranges they are going for with it either to be honest.

It appears that the FDA will once again vote on gardasil for males sometime soon too.

I talked about the hpv vaccine with my daughter and left vaccination with it up to her.  She was 14 when she started the series.  I was very straight forward with her about it, it's effectiveness and it's known side effects. I also talked about how external genital warts are a cosmetic issue and not a health risk.  I had no qualms about getting it for her. She didn't either even though a few of her friends had said that it hurts a lot and her cousin passed out cold after getting it ( this is a girl who has already broken 5 bones even so she wasn't a pain weenie...lol ).   If they ever approve it for my age range, I'll get it myself if my insurance covers it.  Watching a coworker being recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer in her early 30's is enough to make it get it myself. I have not been in a long term monogamous relationship myself so I'm sure I've been at risk many times for hpv even though so far I've not ever shown symptoms. My insurance doesn't cover hpv dna testing unless I get an abnormal pap so it's still the cross your fingers each year you get your pap test for me.  With one child in college and another there in a few years, I can't financially afford to seek out the shots or hpv dna testing on my own either.

Not sure if any of that helped answer your question or not but that's my 2 cents :)

Thanks. I need relief. I am in constant pain. I need the quality of life I had before being diagnosed with H.  I cannot live my life like this.

Hey Grace, just wondering if you would get the gardisil vaccine or recommend it for someone in their 30's. My Doc did recommend it but to be honest, the stories and deaths did make it a little scary... thoughts? OR what about its counterpart Cerv... something?

BTw, taintedforever, I took acyclovir and it works great.

Valtrex will go generic in the US the end of this year - december.

Acyclovir works just as well as valtrex - you just take it more often.  Yes you need a prescription for it from your doctor.  http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/8280?personal_page_id=2773  is a journal entry I made previously you might benefit from reading.

Unfortunately many parents aren't allowing their daughters to get the gardasil shot either. Only 1/3 of eligible girls have gotten it so far :(  The info is there showing how worthwhile it is for boys too but right now they've delayed going for fda approval for it for males.  marketing it for boys will be harder still.  It is also beneficial for women over 29 but the fda shot down approval for that last year I believe it was :(

I timed out for a sec and didnt get your other text til now. Advertisers and companies are great when it comes to selling their products. If Herpevac vaccine prove to be effective after the trial and they decide to market it, they will find a way to sell it. Believe me. I know gardisal is still a little controversial but giving the fact on cervical cancer and HPV, they were able to market it. Herpes simplex virus has many potential complications that the public are not educated/aware of.  Many people did not know about HPV until we started to see the "I want to be one less" commercials. The gardisil vaccine were only for females until now. I think they just approved the vaccine for males too. Herpes vaccination has hope....We are not tryin to condone unprotected sex or teenage sex, but it happens. So, if one less person can be unaffected by this virus...it's beneficial.

Well, good news that Valtrex is going to be generic...it is too darn expensive now.

Thanks. Do I need a prescription? Or can I just go to walmart and ask for it? Does it work as well as Valtrex? I heard the patent on Valtrex has expired and a generic is supposed to come out soon. Have u heard anything bout that.

no cures on the horizon. I honestly do not expect to see one within the next 10 years. Not to be debbie downer, just being realistic and honest.

The herpevac vaccine trials just finished up last month and we should hear results within the next year after they've examined all the info they have. Depending on how the bigger trials turn out, depends on if they 'll go for fda approval or not.  Phase 2 trials showed a 40% reduction in transmission of hsv2.  It'll be a hell of a hard sell though - even harder than hpv vaccinations are. Since it is only effective in females who are completely hsv naive, it'll have to be given to infant girls. Hard to convince parents to give a std vaccine to infants ( though we've successfully sold the hepatitis B vaccine - by not mentioning that it's a std ).

Unfortunately no new medications being tested currently either.  The helicase-primase inhibitor trials by astellas are currently suspended. Lots of rumors out there as to why but the official announcement was to be made at an unidentified conference this fall.  I don't think that bayer is currently trialing their version either - bay 57.

Trials on AG707 are currently on hold too.

Sorry, just not much good news to post other than valtrex going generic in the US the end of this year.

You are so right...there are vaccines for Chicken Pox, Shingles, HPV, Hepatitis A & B,  MMR, Seasonal FLU and Swine Flu and so many other viruses. There surely has to be one for herpes soon. You can check out the NIH, University of Florida, Duke University and clinical trial websites. There are several vaccines being tested and in trial now. I am prayin for better treatment. If I can be asymptomatic, half of the battle would be won. Lets keep praying and being optimistic. Also, education yourself on any new research and findings going on. You can send letters, email or call to find out how far and what stage research is on.

CURE SOOOOONNNNNN.......Technology and science have advanced so much. I know something in the near future. TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS VIRUS!

switch to acyclovir. even without insurance you can treat ob's for $4 /month in the US at walmart/target. suppressive therapy is under $20.

I know what you are going thru. I still go in and out of depression whenever I feel pain, itchiness or tingling....or bumps and ulcerations. Today, I went to fill the Valtrex prescription my doctor wrote out for me, and my insurance didnt even pay for it. I dont have 250 bucks monthly for medication for the rest of my life. I ams till in my 20s and this sucks. I am seriously praying for a miracle. I am saddened that I have this virus. I wanted to be normal again...I hope I will not be forever tainted :((((

Im totally hopeful and excited about a cure. Even if they just figured out how to keep it dormant and stop shedding it would be the same thing. If you look at all the breakthroughs in research on this topic they have all just happened in the last few years, now that we have some breakthroughs I  am very very optimistic about treatments.

I know that people live normal sexually fulfilling lives with this and there are much much bigger things in life BUT being new to this I still cant wrap my head around it yet and still feel like Ill never have sex again...... one day at a time I guess. Im just thankful for sites like this for support.

Hopefully, there will be a vaccine in the next 5 years. Clinically trials are in the works now. However, it's only for people not infect with herpes. Im praying for a cure for all those including me infected with herpes.
