HPV AND PASSING IT ON...CONGUSED

OK SO LONG STORY SHORT, A FRIEND OF MINE HAS HPV AND FOUND OUT FROM A TEST THAT CAME BACK W/ ABNORMAL CELLS ON HER CERVIX. IT HAS BEEN AROUND A YEAR AND SHE HAD TO GO 2 OTHER TIMES FOR PAPS AND ALL IS CLEAR. SHE CONTRACTED THIS FROM AN EX WH IS NOW W/ ANOTHER WOMAN, I TINK SHE SHOULD TELL ER B/C IT IS THE TYPE THAT CAN CAUSE CANCER, TELL ME MORE AND WHICH TYPE IS THIS?
