My daughter is 16 years old. She was sexually active from mid december to mid february. She was tested for HVS 1 and 2 mid Feb and the test results were HSV 1 igg .24 and HSV 2 igg 1.09. She has had no out breaks or signs of herpes. We repeated the test blood test yesterday and are waiting on results.
she started at the same time she became active sexually and was tested. She has had two injections so far. Is there ANYWAY the antibodies in her system due to the vaccine
I realize I may be reaching a bit, but the vaccine is not that old. Couldn't it be possible that it effects the HSV test and it just hasn't been proven yet.....or just not revealed yet.
I would seriously doubt that the vaccine is causing the test results, but 1.09 is considered equivocal, meaning they can't say for sure its negative or positive. Its a good thing they are retesting her.
Hsv1 is the virus that causes cold sores, and if its positive, she has probably had it for awhile. You might have it too - many people do, about 60% of the population, give or take.
Hi AJ,
Thanks for the response. We will probably get the results today....it has been more difficult than you can imagine. My daughter is so young.
As you can see from the test results HVS 1 igg came back at .24 .......or negitive. So the hope that the test was actually picking up HVS 1 instead of HSV 2 is slim to none I guess.
Still I can't help but wonder about the HPV vaccine that produces antibodies to fight gential (genital) warts. why couldn't those antibodies be misinterrupted? The vaccine is so new, is it possible the flaw exists but just hasn't been realized because there aren't many of us out there with young girls getting the vaccine and ALSO being HSV tested?
Again, I can't thank you enough for the feedback. If i want to presue the question further, what authority should I go to for more info?
The antibodies that the vaccine stimulates are hpv specific. It's very doubtful that they would be an issue for hsv testing since the hsv blood tests look for herpes specific proteins in the body.
I agree with jess that repeating your daughters blood test was the best idea. If it comes back as hsv2+ but still less than 3.5 then she'll unfortunately need still more additional testing. Once you get her results - be sure to post them here and we can give you additional help with them.
Thanks Grace,
I had hoped the test results would have come today, but it looks like it will be tomorrow or Monday. I will share them with you at that time. I greatly appreciate you advise and help! Looks like I've got 1-2 more days to pray!
she's really low risk. Many providers wouldn't even have recommended herpes testing for her. It's far more likely to be a false positive if it would come back under 3.5 which is why additional testing is needed.
Has her partner gotten a herpes blood test yet to see if she was ever even at risk in the first place?
Hi Grace,
God I pray you are right! It's all I pray for!
Her BF has turned out to be a jerk and has been truly horrible to her....another reason I am so worried about her. She is dealing with so much right now....anger and hurt. We cry alot......so hard at 16!
They are no longer together and in fact no longer even speak. He has moved to another school as well. She has not told him any of this since we don't know anything for sure right now. He was a virgin when they became involved but we don't know about oral sex....kids these days don't think of oral sex in the same way I do. Since her numbers are so low, she must have contracted it recently and so she would have had to have gotten it from him if she comes back tomorrow with high numbers.
Another worry.....right at the time she was tested she had what appeared to be a pimple on her neck. It had a white head which she popped. She said it was very sensititve and hurt. It was gone in a few days. About a week or so later she got another bump in the same area on her neck but it is more like a cist, no white head, just a bump that's been there for about three weeks now and is sort of purple now. It's about the size of a pea and does not hurt. She had the flu when it showed up and it is still there. Her bf did give her a hicky in the area sometime prior to the bump showing up, but the hicky was completely gone before the bump showed up. I was on the ASHA website and asked about it as well, they said it could be that he has HSV2 oral and gave it to my daughter through the hicky, but that it was very very unlikely. What do you think?
I'm the person who you talked to on the asha site. I post there under betsyb1967. You didn't mention the neck symptoms in this post so I never realized you were the same poster.
Grace,
It's funny that I'd find you again on this site......God puts people in front of us for a reason. Thanks for all you do! I'll be back in touch after we get the results.....either here or on the asha site.
asha's probably the best way to post to me - plus you can keep adding to your other thread there so I remember the details better :) It's slower there so it's easier for me to keep up on all the posts!
