HPV1 & Children - Grace?

Since most people seem to acquire HPV1 in childhood, how exactly is this passed along to children if the children are not being molested or abused?  Most people I know get oral cold sores.

So, how is oral herpes passed along in childhood?  Was everyone sexually abused?

1/3 of folks in the US have hsv1 orally by the time they are in their early 20's.  Not too surprising that you didn't have it actually.

I assume you really mean hsv1 not hpv.

So how do we get oral herpes as children?  Well for the first several years of our lives we do not have a fully functioning immune system.  We are more vulnerable to all disease. As infants/ young children we are constantly being kissed, we drink from everyone's drink and eat off their silverware,  our fingers go into other peoples mouths and then back into our own, everything goes into our mouths etc.  We are more vulnerable to contracting oral herpes thru these ways as young children.  It takes less exposure to the virus to infect us as kids and we are more vulnerable to getting infected as kids. About 1/4 - 1/3 of us contract hsv1 orally before we even start gradeschool in the US.  As we get older it takes more contact to contract the virus - some heat and friction are needed too - ie a really good romantic smooch with someone.

If you have a look around the internet, there is a good deal of information on cold sores and how they are spread.  All it takes is one adult with a cold sore to kiss a child on the lips and the child is infected.  It might manifest initially as a mouthful of ulcers but it can lie dormant for many years before emerging again - usually when one has 'flu or is otherwise run down.  Strong sunlight also brings out cold sores in many people.

It has nothing to do with sexual abuse but I personally would never allow an adult to kiss my child on the lips.
