HS-1 transfer..

HS-1 transfer..

I have recently been diagnosed with HS-1 genitally.  My partner has it orally, but no longer got outbreaks and so thought it unimportant to mention.  I contracted it thorugh oral sex.  My question is: He has it orally already, can I give him HS-1 again genitally?  As of right now, I don't seem to have it orally.  I want to know what the risks of transmitting it back to him genitally are.... Since he already has it, is he immune to contracting it again at a new location..?  Thanks, I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere...

I know the word one the street here is that if your partner has it orally it gives very good protection. I actually talked with my dermatologist this morning and asked him this very question, if I dated someone with it orally then could they get it? His answer was yet, just becasue they have it orally does not mean they cannot get it genitally too. THis just seems to go against what Ive been reading, but he really knew his stuff.

I guess in addition, ive read repeaedly that its near impossible to get it from genital to genital contact, i need to add that that is exactly how i got it - I guess in the world of science nothing is "impossible". It should be more about minimizing your risk as much as possible.

I'd love to hear some feedback on my dermatologists very educated information......

less than 10% of all hsv1 genital cases are from genital sex. All the rest are from oral to genital contact. It happens but not often.

Having hsv1 orally makes it incredibly unlikely that you'll contract it genitally later on. The few folks who have come to the board with credible testing and stories who have later on contracted it genitally, all seem to have gotten it from having sex/oral sex after shaving their pubic hair which creates microscopic cuts in the skin which makes it easier for the virus to penetrate and infect.

The vast majority of couples where one has it orally and the other has it genitally are not going to have to worry about hsv1 genital transmission to the partner who has it orally. Just avoid sex whenever the genitally infected partner has obvious symptoms and the risk is far too low to worry about.
