I have read multiple posts, and threads, however I am still confused and would love some personal attention based on my own specific results (above). I received what I believe to be devastating news today, as my doctor informed me that their was a strong possibility that I was exposed to the Herpes virus.
I'm falling in love with a girl I've been dating for the last 3-4 months and telling her this, so soon, would be crushing to us, I know it. I can take responsibility for the herpes on my own, but infecting someone I care about brings me to tears.
My results read as the title states HSV 1 & 2 Specific Ab, IgG both negative at <0.91, however my HSV IgM I/II Combination read 1.09 High. My doctor explained that though I may not have any symptoms, a high IgM score typically means a recent infection, and I may not have produced enough anti-bodies for the IgG test to detect.
I truly appreciate any feedback from a medical professional, or even a well informed board member. Believe me your input will be taken to heart and greatly inform the next steps I can with this matter.
the herpes igm test is a very flawed test and current cdc recommendations are that it not even be drawn on adults. encourage your provider to read the 2010 cdc herpes guidelines to better educate themselves on how to best test their patients for herpes. A + igm result is pretty much meaningless for you.
at this point the best thing to do is to discuss this with your partner. odds are that she's never been tested for herpes before. since herpes is on your mind, knowing her status is just as important as knowing your own so encourage her to get tested with the igg blood test to know her own status.
