HSV 1 & 2 results high and pregnant 38wks

I just learned that I tested positive for both types my results were 32 and 21 considered high.  I'm married, and already have a son and I'm pregnant with my second due any day now.  What does this high result actually mean, did I just get the antibodies for hsv or have I had it for a long time not knowing it?  this is devastating news and still trying to figure out how to deal with knowing I'm positive for this disease that is very contagious and will never go away.  any insight on these test results will help ease my mind.  thank u..

Are you sure your results didn't include a period in there somewhere? Also do you know if you had igg or igm testing done?

So what do you do now? Well if we assume you had hsv2 prior to becoming pregnant, no obvious symptoms around the time of delivery and the risk of transmission to the baby during birth is less than 1%. At this point, it is too close to the end of your pregnancy to get any accurate answers as to if you are indeed hsv2+ and how long you've had it unfortunately.

If you haven't already, I encourage you to google the free herpes handbook by Terri Warren and read through it with your husband. there is a section on  pregnancy in the handbook that will also give you the basics on herpes.

Did your provider start you on any herpes medications to try to reduce the chances of having an obvious lesion genitally near the time of delivery?

Yes.  It is high.  My Dr made it seem like it's not a big deal and to not share eating utensil, have sexual relations or kiss or touch none of that during an outbreak which to my knowledge I've only had one on my lip from picking at it, which prompted me getting a blood test done.  I can deal with having this, but I'm finding it hard to cope knowing I can easily or may have already passed this on to my son unknowingly.  I do believe I got it from my husband but not 100% sure, I just know that we both haven't been angels before we met each other.  I'm just afraid of passing this on to my baby.  I plan on getting my husband and son tested very soon.  As for me having it my Dr asked if I had an outbreak down there and I said if I did I didn't know it.  Although I do remember getting one really painful bump down there a couple mos ago that eventually drained after I put hot compress on it.  I was picking at what seemed to be an ingrown hair or something similar. I didn't ask my Dr about it cuz she wasn't in the office that day and by my next apt, it healed so I forgot to ask.  Should mention that to her even tho it's been a couple mos?  I'm trying not to worry...

Hi, first find out if the test you took says that any number below 1.2 is negative and any number above 1.2 is positive (which is most like the case). These high numbers may infer that youve had both for quite some time. Your doctor should have tested you for herpes and if you are positive for genital hsv then you should have gone on antivirals a few months back to avoid having an outbreak during labor.
Dont be overly worried if this is the case as your body would release some antibodies temporary in the unborn. Please tell your doctor about this as very important.
