HSV-1, am I susceptible

HSV-1, am I susceptible

As a little girl I had cold sores which would mean I am HSV-1+.  Recently I had oral sex with my boyfriend who had a cold sore and after I developed bumps around my vaginal area.

- Am I more susceptible to get gential (genital) herpes because I have had cold sores before and my boyfriend had a cold sore during oral sex, even though I have never had genital herpes?

Thank you!

were you seen and had a proper work up done?

odds are this isn't hsv1 genitally going on. have you both been properly tested for herpes before?

I have been tested before (via blood tests), not exactly sure if my boyfriend has. He just states that he does not have herpes.  Why would you say it is not HSV-1?

Grace,

So if my boyfriend has HSV-1 is there a way I can get HSV-2 from him?

he'd have to have hsv2 in order for you to contract it. hsv1 and hsv2 are different infections and one can't turn into the other.

were you seen for your symptoms? did you have any testing done for them?

Grace,

I am going to the doctor's tomorrow.  The last time I was tested was in June of 07' and I did not have either HSV.

even the best herpes tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. if you have a history of cold sores ( and not canker sores ) then you really do have hsv1 orally.

make sure you get tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally when you are seen.

do you still have your rash?  does it hurt?

has your partner had full std testing done too?

The doctor suspects I have a bacterial infection and suspects I have herpes from looking at me today, I just have to wait for the cultures to come back.  I still have the bumps and they still hurt.  My boyfriend just told me today that he has been getting cold sores since he was a little kid and states that he has HSV1, but did not tell me if he had proper testing.

Dear Grace,

Is my results do come out positive for HSV-1 what will that mean for me? As far as outbreaks in the future, having children, etc?
