HSV-1/HSV-2

Hello,

I have recently been dagnosed with Herpes. Unfortunately, I live in Canada and our test here is not capable of telling HSV-1 from HSV-2.

My initial outbreak was very mild. 3 very small lesions on my penis which healed in about 5 days, and some minor irritation when urinating.

I had sex with 3 different women in the 2 months prior to my infection. I used a condom for vaginal sex each time, but had unprotected oral sex.

What is the chances that I have HSV-1 and not HSV-2? This is what I am thinking. Is there a test I can obtain that can give me a definite answer?

typing lesion cultures is done in canada routinely . sounds like your provider just didn't order typing of the culture.  give the clinic a call in the morning and ask them to call the lab to see if they still have the culture to order it typed for you. much faster than waiting months for blood testing.

i asked to have it typed, and they said they did not havr access to a typing test in my province
