HSV-1 NGU and HSV-1 Genital Herpes

Hello,

I'm a 26 yo male and I was diagnosed of NGU 10 months ago after receiving oral sex from my partner. I was just experiencing extreme pain when urinating but there was no lesions/ulcer/discharge from my penis. The doctor took a sample from the tip of my penis inside the urethra and the test came back positive for HSV 1. I was prescribed one-dose of Azithromycin and the symptoms went away pretty quickly. So in this case I think I had NGU caused by HSV-1 and I'm just wondering the difference with the genital herpes caused by HSV -1 in terms of future recurrences and transmission risks to future partners.

Also from the research I've done almost all NGU caused By HSV1 is accompanied by genital ulcers/lesions during the primary outbreak. Since I didn't experience any of that, is it possible that the lab test was a false positive?

Within these 10 months I have not had another outbreak in forms of typical herpes and I only experienced some slight nerve pain, but I'm not sure if it's psychological impact or not.

Do I need further testing? and any ideas on the difference between NGU caused by HSV1 and genital herpes?

Thank you for any input!

Swab tests are very accurate and conclusive. Hsv1 has far fewer outbreaks than hsv2 on the genitals. Hsv1 of the genitals sheds very little. The odds of you passing it to a partner from Intercourse isn't zero but it is very low. Hsv1 genital to genital is not common.
