HSV-1 Reactivation After Surgery - Detection??

HSV-1 Reactivation After Surgery - Detection??

Affter brain surgery (at the base of the skull), I believe herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) was reactivated (even though the hospital never tested for it) for I had a stiff neck and couldn't stand any light or sound and never fully recovered. I was given solu-medrol for the swelling.

It's been over three years, with no improvement.  Besides a lumbar puncture, is there a blood test that can detect the HSV-1 virus?  Would acyclovir be the best thing for this?

Thanks!
