On the whole it is best not to kiss anyone with an active cold sore it is skin to skin contact that transmits the virus .... and you are correctCorrect (new formula) it is usually the soft muscus membrane areas that are most likley to cause transmission.
I doubt it would have been passed from a kiss on the cheek unless you had a break in your skin at that area.
