HSV-1 and -2 Positive

Recently tested positive for HSV-2 with IGG (HSV-1 as well)... Have never had an outbreak of lesions or sacs or anything of the sort (that I was aware of).

My results:

HSV1 IgG 5.17 H
HSV2 IgG 2.10 H

I'm assuming that the positive IGG means I definitely have Herpes-2 (and not just exposed to it at some point in the past) -- that it's like a pregnancy test, you either have Herpes-2 or you don't.

However, I have now read that an IGG < 3.5 for HSV2 may be a false positive. Is that true? And why wouldn't the testing facility tell me this -- all they said was "You have Herpes-2".

However, given that I have never had an outbreak, is it possible that I never will? Or was it perhaps so minor that I didn't even notice? What can I expect?

Yes your hsv2 igg could possibly be a false positive and needs confirmed with further testing.  The herpes biokit for hsv2 or the herpes WB would be the 2 best tests to choose from to do this with.

When was the last time you had sex before this screening though?

Prior to the screening, it had been about 4 weeks since last intercourse, but it was protected oral and vaginal (though I get the sense that "protected", when it comes to Herpes, is a really relative thing).

The last time I did anything unprotected was oral, perhaps a year ago. Before that, I had unprotected sex maybe 10, 11 years ago.

What is the likelihood of it being a false positive with this information? I don't want to get my hopes up, but there you have it...

I'd wait and repeat the blood test in another 2 or 3 months and see what your hsv2 igg is then. If it's still under 3.5 then get the WB or biokit.
