HSV 1 and HSV 2 IGG AB

To: Edwad W. Hook, MD
I just recieved my Hsv 1 and 2 results

They both are positive by Herpeselect
Now, I would like to know more about the range indicated...what exactly does the range tell...

                              Out of Range                  Reference Range
* Hsv 2 IGG AB         >5.00               H            0.00-0.89
* Hsv 1 IGG AB          4.84                H            0.00-0.89

Now, my doctor told me this indicates that I've been infected for a long period of time...could that be true...i've never had an out break...and don't know what to look for.. previously...my long term boyfriend...was tested and explained that he...was negative for both...is this possible as well...especially, when he has been the only one that i've been with in  10+ years...and was having unprotected sex with him only. However, he has yet shown me his blood work. can you please shed some light on my confusion.

This isn't the doc's forum, but we can help here.

The ranges are just to show what your result would look like if you were negative, and your results are positive.

Its possible that he doesn't have it, and that you had it before you got together with him.

It sounds as if you don't trust him, though?  I'd ask to see his results, just to make sure he was tested correctly.

Its probable that your previous hsv1 infection is making your hsv2 milder, or asymptomatic.

You should check out the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com for some good info on herpes.
