HSV-1 in genitals

Hi there,

A couple weeks ago my boyfriend had a cold sore and we had sex (including oral sex). The cold sore was on its first stage (he didn't realize it was there; very small, slilghtly swollen/red). I have never previously had a cold sore before. Today, I woke up to some swelling and what appears to be the onset of a cold sore on my lip. I have been extremely worried about contracting HSV-1 on my genitals and am wondering if since I got it on my lip if I could have contracted it both areas?

Any help would be much appreciated.

unless you get symptoms genitally , odds are you didn't get it there.  If you call your provider today, they can call you in valtrex, famvir or acyclovir in the cold sore doses so that you can start them asap and keep this cold sore from taking so long to run its course :)

I've never had any contact with HSV-1 before, that's why I'm worried I am more suseptable to getting it genitally. Do most people contract HSV-1 genitally after contact? There seems to be contradictory postings ranging from "you pretty much got it", to "don't even worry about it". I am most concerned with it popping up later and giving it to someone else.

odds are you would've had genital symptoms by now. You've had no symptoms so odds are you didn't get it genitally.
